Fisheye View Photo Like a lot of people I grew up watching Sea Hunt & Jacques Cousteau. I used to watch those shows thinking "one day that will be me." By the time I was 15 I had worn my parents down enough to let me get certified. So in the summer of 1978 I got my “Basic Diver” certification from PADI. Back then this was the same certification as the current “Open Water” diver, but with only 2 certification dives. If you did an extra 2 dives with an instructor you got the “Open Water” certification. I quickly went to on to get my “Advanced Open Water” certification, my “Wreck” specialty, and in 1980 my Divemaster certification.
I helped teach a lot of classes over the years, but I always felt like there was something I was missing. I tried spear fishing, but that didn’t keep my interest. It wasn’t until after I met my wife that I learned to love photography. On an annual dive trip to Cozumel in 1998 I tried underwater photography for the first time. From the moment I took my first picture I was hooked.
I started out with a Sea & Sea MX10 point and shoot film camera. I soon upgraded to the Sea & Sea Motor Marine IIex. I then moved up to the Nikon F100 in a Sea & Sea housing. Recently I made the leap to the dark side. I am now shooting the Nikon D200 in a Sea & Sea housing.
With this new system has come a whole new love for photography. Before I only shot underwater. Now I have branched out into all kinds of nature photography. When I'm not diving I can be found exploring the natural beauty of Everglades National Park, or Wakodahatchee Wetlands.
I hope you enjoy my work.
